I am finally posting some of the pictures that I took of this years project on CVM. This is the NCS guild project for 2008. California Varigated Mutant sheep are a mutation of the Romeldale, which produces a badger pattern. CVM's can be from a registered Romeldale ewe, if the lamb possess the badger pattern. If the ewe produced a non-badger faced lamb it is registered as a Romeldale. They are listed as a critically endangered breed.

Well, I finally finished spinning all the wool for this years guild challenge on CVM or California Red. I have washed and set three skeins of yarn with a total yardage of 475 yards at 24 wraps per inch. I am thinking of some kind of a lace knitting project, possibly a scarf from Arctic Knits. I am also registered for a couple of lace knitting workshops at the NCS retreat and SOAR. Both are at the end of September and beginning of October, so maybe I will wait a bit longer. Currently I have been finishing up a bunch of projects that I already have started. I have three looms warped, three knitting projects in progress, and a rug hooking project. I have finished two of the knitting projects. I recently finished a lace scarf that I started in February and a pair of socks that have been suffering second sock syndrome for a while now. I really think I will have to work on the rug hooking project as our local group does a themed rug every few months and this one is due first week of October with an autumn theme. It has been a lot of fun because I am using some of my handspun in this rug.

Our local guild the North Country Spinners will be celebrating their 25th anniversary on September 5, 2008. It is really amazing how far spinning has come in the last 25 years. From hippie hand spun to some truly amazing lace weight spinning with fibers that were unimaginable 25 years ago. Who would have thought that bamboo, soy silk, latte, and sea cell would be the new age fibers. One also would not want to forget all the beautiful blends and hand dyed fibers now on the market. Most fibers are now only a mouse click away. It is a good time to celebrate just how far we have come, and enjoy some of today's fibers. Spin On.

We started today with a severe thunder storm. I really wanted to go to the weaving guilds summer picnic. I had the salad all made and we just got the worst storm. Usually on the second Monday of the month the Francis Irwin Handweavers have there meetings, we normally meet at the Catherine Dickson Hoffman library in Blairstown, NJ. Anyhow, better luck next month. Some of our members entered the NJ State Fair and won several ribbons. Congratulations to everyone who entered.

NCS 2007 Guild Project

These are some photos from the North Country Spinners 2007 Guild Project. Everyone was given a small bag with 3/4 oz of four wools. Two natural and two dyed. Each member had to create something using only 2.5 oz of fiber. Mine are the self striped wristlets. I carded the four colors in stripes and rolled them off the cards into rolags. These were spun with each rolag starting with the gray roving. Each rolag was spun the same way then navajo plied resulting in a self striping yarn. The wristlets were knitted on size one needles (double points) from a pattern in Piecework Nov/Dec 2002 entitled Pretty Knitted Cuffs.

Profile

I have just created this new blog. I am an obsessed spinner from Northwest New Jersey. I have been spinning since 1993. I have been a member of the North Country Spinners since that time. I am currently serving as president of the guild. We are celebrating our 25th Anniversary next month. I also knit, weave, felt. My main interests are spinning, tapestry weaving, sock and lace knitting. I completed the Ontario Handspinners and Weavers spinning certificate in May 2006.
